Hernan lived in Lima, Peru, until he was 17 years old and came to the US on a scholarship to study mechanical engineering at The University of Kansas. While in Kansas, he met Lindsey, who was working on her degree in English. After graduation in 2011, Hernán and Lindsey moved to Boulder, Colorado, where Hernán completed a PhD in Aerospace Engineering in 2016.
In 2012, Lindsey and Hernán started a company called The Postman’s Knock (TPK). At first, The Postman’s Knock was a little Etsy shop where Lindsey sold services such as invitation design and custom calligraphy. After Hernán built a website for TPK, the company evolved into a thriving blog with a significant income source from eBooks and video courses.
Fast-forward to 2018, and the TPK mailing list annual cost exceeded $4,000. Hernan knew there had to be a better, cheaper way to send out newsletters and RSS feeds, and that’s when Boldermail was born! We decided on the name “Boldermail” because … well, A) we made the bold decision to step away from MailChimp, and B), we live in Boulder, CO! We used Boldermail for six months on our own site before deciding to offer it to you.
When he’s not writing code, Hernan enjoys renovating antique pieces of furniture. He’s also an avid bicyclist, professional goofball, and a B-grade gardener! His favorite city is Paris, and his one weakness is not proofreading the copy that Lindsey put together for this bio.
